Some of recent SBL Committees’ events are as follows:
i. Roundtable on Ethics at the Nigerian Intellectual Property Bar:
The Intellectual Property Committee of the NBA Section of Business Law collaborated with the INTA on its Pre-annual Meeting roundtable to discuss the theme “Ethics at the Nigerian Intellectual Property Bar” on 26th March, 2013 at the Moorhouse Hotel, Ikoyi – Lagos.
The Roundtable was conducted by a Faculty of seasoned Intellectual Property Practitioners from within and outside the country and featured very incisive and relevant topics. The event was well attended by members of the Association who were obviously quite keen to learn the importance of Ethical Principles to the Legal Profession with emphasis on the Intellectual Property Bar. Some of Speakers at the Roundtable included; Mr. Charles Adeogun-Phillips, Mrs. Chinyere Okorocha,
Partner, Jackson Etti & Edu and Mrs. Gbemi Odusote, Director of Academics at the Nigerian Law School.
The Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law (SBL) is one of the specialist sections of the NBA that was set up primarily to engender the professional development of Nigerian commercial lawyers and thereby raise the level of business law practice in Nigeria.
The Section which was created alongside the Section on Legal Practice, following the approval of the NBA National Executive Committee (NEC) and pursuant to the resolution of the NBA Annual General Conference held inEnugu in 2003, was inaugurated on the 9th of December 2004 by the then President of the NBA, Chief Bayo Ojo, SAN.
The SBL has at its apex a Council which is currently chaired by Mr. Gbenga Oyebode MFR and consists of 15 (fifteen) othermembersall of whom are seasoned Commercial Law Practitioners drawn from diverse legal backgrounds.
